Racing With a Purpose
Hey, I’m Lacy Kuehl, a race car driver from Sarasota, Florida, and the spokesperson for Drive for Diabetes Awareness. I’ve been racing since I was six years old, starting in go-karts and now competing in USLCI Legend Cars all across the country.
Racing is what I love, but there’s a deeper reason behind why I do it. When I was little, I lost my baby brother Rocco to undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes. He was just one year old, and no one caught the signs in time. That loss changed everything for me and my family.
Ever since, I’ve been using my platform to raise awareness about the warning signs of diabetes. My goal is simple: to help save lives by making sure other families know what to look for — and when to act. Racing is my way to reach people, spark conversations, and bring attention to something that matters.
My Mission
I race with purpose. Through Drive for Diabetes Awareness, I travel to schools, events, and racetracks to share Rocco’s story and educate others about symptoms like excessive thirst, fruity breath, or sudden weight loss — things most people don’t realize can be warning signs.
I want to inspire families to “check, don’t guess.” It only takes a simple test to save a life.
Along with racing, I’ve even taken that mission all the way to Alaska, where I competed in the Jr. Iditarod and raced through the snow with a sled dog team. That experience was one of the toughest and most meaningful things I’ve ever done.
